K-Wings earns a special win

Elmira, NY - Led by a spectacular special teams night sparked by a 4-for-5 performance on the power-play and one shorthanded goal, the Kalamazoo Wings defeated the Elmira Jackals 6-3 at the First Arena.

Setting team-history, the K-Wings grabbed an early lead with a shorthanded goal by Nick Sirota (12th). The goal was Kalamazoo's 13th shorthander of the season, which establishes the team's ECHL record set during the 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons.

Former Western Michigan Bronco Dane Walters evened the game at 1-1 netting his ninth goal of the season on a rebound midway in the period

Kalamazoo exploded in the second period scoring four times including three goals in the first 3:13 of the period. Matt Caria (4th) put Kalamazoo back on top 29 seconds in to the stanza with a power-play marker.

Needing just 49 seconds to add to their lead, Yannick Veilleux (16th) found room at the right circle for his 16th goal of the campaign.

Sirota (13th) kept up the K-Wings scoring barrage moments later with his second of the night, this time on the power-play. Following the goal, the Jackals pulled Neil Conway in favor of Tony Capobianco after Conway allowed four goals on 13 shots.

Battling back Ryan Rashid earned his first professional goal midway into the period to bring the Jackals back to within two goals; however minutes later, the K-Wings netted their third power-play goal of the game, this time off the tape of David Pacan (12th).

Joe Sova (5th) tacked on the K-Wings fourth man-advantage tally of the night 2:33 into the third period to give Kalamazoo their largest lead of the night.

Responding right away, Mike Vaskivuo (19th) capped off the scoring.

Kalamazoo continues their season-long six-game road swing with the third-leg of the trip this Friday, April 4th with a 7:05 p.m. encounter at the Santander Arena against the Reading Royals.

The K-Wings will return home to Wings Stadium to close out the regular season on Saturday, April 12th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Evansville IceMen on Fan Appreciation Night featuring the post-game player's award ceremony.

Tickets for all regular season and playoff K-Wings home games are currently on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster locations, including www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000. Ticket office hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Individual regular season ticket prices for home games are $13 and $17.50 for adults and only $7 for kids ages 12 and under. Fans can save money by purchasing K-Wings single-game tickets in advance. Tickets purchased on the day of a game increase by $2 (adults only).

K-Wings Pepsi playoff tickets are also available. Thanks to Pepsi, the first 2,500 fans that purchase tickets specifically for game one of round one will enjoy a special $4 ticket price. These special $4 tickets for game one are part of the team's 2013-14 season long 40th Anniversary celebration and reflect ticket prices from the K-Wings Inaugural 1974-75 season.

Regular pricing for all other K-Wings Pepsi Playoff games are $17 and $20 for adults and only $8 for children 12 and under. Also, courtesy of Pepsi, the team is offering special $10 tickets for groups of 15 or more throughout the playoffs.
