TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: As the regular season enters its final two weeks, the Cyclones hope to close in on a 2014 Kelly Cup berth as they battle the Fort Wayne Komets for the second-to-last time this season. While their Hoosier State foes have taken four of the six meetings in 2013-14, the Clones are 6-1-1 all-time at Memorial Coliseum.
SCOUTING THE KOMETS: Gary Graham's club picked up some big points this past weekend and remain inside the playoff bubble looking out. As of tonight, they hold a slim one point buffer for the eighth and final playoff spot. The Komets leading scorer, Brandon Marino, is also the league's biggest offensive weapon; he's notched 80 points (26g, 54a) in 66 games this season. Former Cyclones Mike Embach has risen to the top of Fort Wayne's leaderboard as well - collecting a total of 51 tallies (27g, 24a) in 62 contests. He's earned 39 of those points as a member of the Komets. Between the pipes, Ben Meisner has led the way with a 13-13-2-0 record and a 2.48 goals-against average. Max Strang has also seen time for Fort Wayne and South Carolina this year - amassing a 3-2-3-1 mark with a 2.99 GAA. Rookie Matt Grogan recently joined the pro ranks as well after completing college at University of Connecticut. Thus far, he's gone 3-1-0 with a 3.39 GAA.
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING: FEBRUARY 14, 2014: Goaltender Scott Darling made a triumphant return to the ECHL as he posted 35 saves plus five more in the shootout as the Cyclones defeated theKomets by a 3-2 final score in front of 8,014 at Memorial Coliseum.
High Five: Cincinnati's league-leading offense continues to click as the regular season winds down. This past weekend, they posted their 20th game with five goals or more - the most that the club has achieved since the 2008-09 campaign. The Clones are averaging 3.43 goals-per-game.
A Change for the Better: Since being claimed from the Wheeling Nailers, Colin Mulvey has been one of the Cyclones regular point getters. He's notched five points (2g, 3a) in five games. He had earned eight tallies in 31 games for Wheeling.
