Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

FORT WAYNE, Indiana - The ECHL's leading scorer, Brandon Marino, picked up the game-winning goal at 4:14 of overtime as the Fort Wayne Komets (32-23-7-5) rallied to beat the Cincinnati Cyclones (37-22-3-4) by a 3-2 final score in front of 5,884 at Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday night.

The Cyclones penalty kill unit helped the visitors jump out in front at 9:51 of the opening frame. After Byron Froese stole the puck away from Simon Danis-Pepin at center ice, he raced in on net and beat Ben Meisner (W, 28 saves, 14-13-2-0) with a nifty backhand shot to make it 1-0. Former Cyclone Matt Carter was able to pull the Komets even by snapping a shot past Magnus Hellberg (OTL, 33 saves, 1-0-1) right off of a face-off at 14:11. The teams would enter the first intermission all square at one.

Paul Crowder, fresh off a reassignment to Cincinnati earlier today, notched his 15th goal of the season at 3:50 of the middle period to regain the lead at 2-1. And thanks to a pair of successful penalty kills in the frame, the Cyclones held the one goal edge after 40 minutes.

Cincinnati's penalty kill prowess continued in the third period as they negated another two Komets man advantages, giving them a five-for-five night in regulation. Unfortunately, though, defenseman William Lacasse was able to snap home a point shot with just 3:06 remaining in the stanza to make it a 3-3 game and ultimately force overtime. Shortly after Taylor Aronson was whistled for an interference penalty in the extra session, the ECHL's leading scorer, Brandon Marino, set himself up in the left circle and one-timed home the game winning strike at 4:14. With a point earned, combined with a Florida Everblades shootout loss tonight, shrunk Cincinnati's magic number to clinch a playoff spot to four.

The Cyclones will return to U.S. Bank Arena TOMORROW NIGHT when they host the Evansville IceMen at 7:30pm! The game will feature $1 PBR and Miller High Life in addition to our "Halfway to Halloween Night!" We'll award a cash prize to the fan with the best costume!
