WEEK IN REVIEW:

STK 2 - IDH 4 (3/26/14): Despite Stockton outshooting the Steelheads 26 to 22 it would be Idaho and goaltender Josh Robinson who would come out on top. Luke Judson got the scoring started before Ryan Hayes scored his 10th of the year. Brett Robinson kicked off an Idaho three goal second period with Tommy Grant and Gaelan Patterson scoring for the Steelheads as well. Hayes scored his second of the game in that period but that was as close as the Thunder would get.

STK 1 - IDH 4 (3/28/14) : The Steelheads once again scored first as Justin Mercier scored near the end of the first, however with Ryan Hayes in the box for holding, Tommy Grant would double the Idaho advantage on the power play. Hayes would atone for the penalty with a goal of his own but two goals by Jason Bast, one in the second period, and one in the final frame would send the Thunder tumbling.

STK 1 - ONT 3 (3/29/14): After back to back poor showings by the Thunder, the team came up huge in the first period of their away game to Citizens Business Bank Arena, limiting the Ontario Reign to a single shot in the first period. However, the Thunder couldn't beat J.P. Anderson with a single one of their 17 shots. Same story in the second period when Anderson stopped all nine Thunder shots but Brian Foster stopped the seven he faced as well. It wouldn't be a storybook ending though as Rocco Carzo and Kyle Bigos scored in the third period to give the Reign the lead. Matt Bergland got one back for the Thunder but with the net open, Carzo ended the game with the empty netter in a game the Thunder deserved a better result in.

STK 3 - IDH 4 (3/30/14): The team hopped back on the bus to come back to Stockton and play the Steelheads in an odd game. Justin Mercier got the scoring started but it was answered by Joey Martin's tally in the second. Three straight Idaho goals had the Thunder on their heels, but credit the Stockton side for showing some life at the end. Alan Quine got one back for the Thunder and Ryan Hayes put the pressure on but the Thunder ran out of time and fell again to the Steelheads.

TEAM NOTES:

-The Thunder's streak of being the second to last team to not get shutout ended on 3/4/14 when Laurent Brossoit and the Condors kept the Thunder off the board.

-The Thunder are 15-14-0-3 on home ice while 14-16-0-3 in road games. At Stockton Arena the team is -4 in goal differential while on the road the team is -14 in goal differential.

-Stockton has played in five overtime and eight shootout contests. The Thunder have won all five games in extra time and have won two shootout games.

-In the skills competition, the Thunder have scored just 8 of 44 attempts (a league worst .182 success rate) thanks to Joey Martin (x3), James Henry and former Thunder forwards Greg Miller, Mitch Bruijsten and Brayden Irwin. Thunder goaltenders have allowed 12 goals on 46 attempts.

-The Thunder are 22-9-0-4 in games when they've scored first.

-Stockton is 15-16-0-1 against Mountain Division opponents and 14-14-0-5 against Pacific Division opponents.

-The Thunder have the second best power play unit in the league as they have an overall conversion rate of 19.1%, but on home ice, the Thunder's PP has struck 20.8% of the time. Away from Stockton Arena, the Thunder are 28 for 157 on the power play, good for a 17.8% conversion rate.

-Stockton is 16-4-0-2 when leading after the first period, 23-0-0-4 when leading after two, and 17-10-0-1 when they outshoot an opponent. However, the team is 2-23-0-1 when trailing after the second period and 11-17-0-4 when they are outshot by an opponent.

-Oddly, the Thunder are great in games decided by 1 goal, or games decided by 4 or more. In 1-goal games, the Thunder are 17-6-0-6 and in games where the team has finished with a 4-goal or more lead the team is 7-2-0-0. The Thunder have only won five contests when the game is decided by 2 or 3 goals in 27 tries.

OPERATION SUPPORT OUR MILITARY FAMILIES

Operation Support Our Military Families will be collecting items before both Military Appreciation games this Friday and Saturday to be sent overseas to our troops. There are many things that can go in a box full of goodies, but we have narrowed down the possibilities to a specific list of items that the Troops have requested or suggested for us. These items are of most value to the Troops while they are deployed.

Remember, the space is limited so all donations must be small, trial/travel/snack sized items. For more information, visit them at OperationTroopOutreach.com

SALUTE OUR TROOPS

We here with the Thunder want to thank all of those that have, are, or are going to serve our country. You brave few protect our freedoms and our rights to enjoy a hockey game on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Recognizing you for just two days doesn't seem like enough, but know that all of us, and all of our fans, appreciate everything you do.

ROUGH & READY IRISH RED BEER

You fans really did a number on the Thunder's new beer, Rough & Ready Irish Red! The response to everything, the videos, the shirts, and of course the beer was truly overwhelming.

The response to everything was so amazing that we ran out and the certain sizes of the shirts were out as well!

Well the beer is back and so too are the shirts, and our distribution has grown! You can now get your own Rough & Ready Irish Red beer at the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel provided you are 21 years of age or older.

FROZEN MOMENT:

This shot taken by Asvitt Photography shows Ryan Hayes celebrating after yet another goal, but despite the winger's good fortune offensively last weekend, the Thunder were unable to beat the Steelheads. Hayes now has 13 goals this season in 26 games played.

FAN PICTURE OF THE WEEK:

No other teams ceased operations, no game was added in Alaska, and finally...after two months, the kids got the chance to skate with the team. We got a ton of great pictures but this one is extremely cute featuring a couple young ladies posing with the team captain, Garet Hunt.

TWEET OF THE WEEK:

That didn't take long for Mathieu Gagnon to get in his first AHL fight in his first AHL game. @IslesEnforcers tweeted this to us and we're glad he did as we got to enjoy "Gagz" give it to Cody Bass on the ice! We are so proud of all of you guys that have made it to the AHL and certainly Mathieu making us proud yesterday!
