Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Troy Johnston homered for the second day in a row and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp bested the Gwinnett Stripers 4-1 in front of 6,545 fans at 121 Financial Ballpark.

With Gwinnett (44-56, 11-14) ahead 1-0, Paul McIntosh singled to lead off the bottom of the third. After a strikeout, Jake Mangum lashed a base hit. Jacob Amaya then laced a two-run double down the left field line off Stripers starter Max Fried (0-2) to give Jacksonville a 2-1 advantage they would not relinquish.

The score remained that way until the sixth. Xavier Edwards dropped down a bunt single with one out. Johnston followed by smashing a two-run shot to right to widen the gap to 4-1.

The Jumbo Shrimp pitching staff walked 10 batters - one off a season-high - but yielded only one, with the Stripers stranding 12 runners on base. Johan Quezada (4-2) worked 2.2 scoreless and hitless innings to earn the win. Geoff Hartlieb got the final four outs for his fifth save.

The Stripers initially scored the game's first run. A Vaughn Grissom walk, Joe Dunand single and Jesus Aguilar walk loaded the bases with one out. Following a strikeout, Yolmer Sánchez was hit by a pitch to force in a run.

Jacksonville bids for a series win in Sunday's 3:05 p.m. finale against Gwinnett. LHP Daniel Castano (1-0, 3.48 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp. Coverage begins at 2:50 p.m. on Bally Live, MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 and www.ESPN690.com.
