Barrera's Big Day Not Enough for Memphis on Saturday Night

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds continued a 12-game homestand with a 13-9 loss to the Iowa Cubs at AutoZone Park on Saturday night.

Memphis catcher Tres Barrera put together his best game as a Redbird on Saturday night. The right-handed hitter went two-for-two with a pair of walks and a dramatic go-ahead grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 9-6, Memphis.

MLB Rehabber Tommy Edman went one-for-five in his first appearance with Memphis since 2019. The switch hitter drove in second baseman Masyn Winn with a single in the third inning and scored a run.

Reliever Zack Thompson retired all five batters he faced and recorded three strikeouts in his first appearance with Memphis since being optioned by St. Louis earlier in the week.

The Redbirds (51-50) return to AutoZone Park on Sunday, July 30 to continue a 12-game homestand at 2:05p.m. CDT against the Iowa Cubs.
