Gwinnett Stripers News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Atlanta Braves' left-hander Max Fried pitched 4.1 innings of two-run baseball in his third rehab start for the Gwinnett Stripers (44-56) on Saturday night, but it came in a 4-1 loss to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (46-54) at 121 Financial Ballpark.
Decisive Plays: The Stripers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Yolmer Sanchez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Vaughn Grissom. The lead didn't last long as Jacob Amaya's two-run double off Fried gave Jacksonville a 2-1 edge in the bottom of the third. That score held until the sixth, when Troy Johnston belted a two-run home run (2) to right field to make it 4-1. Gwinnett loaded the bases with two outs against Geoff Hartlieb in the ninth, but Hartlieb (S, 5) got Jesus Aguilar to fly out to center to end the game.
Key Contributors: Fried (L, 0-2) threw 79 pitches (49 strikes) over 4.1 five-hit, two-run innings. He walked two and struck out four. Grissom, Luke Williams, Joe Dunand, and Hoy Park each had singles for the Stripers. For Jacksonville, Johan Quezada (W, 4-2) threw 2.2 hitless frames in relief, and Amaya (1-for-4, double, 2 RBIs) and Johnston (2-for-4, homer, 2 RBIs) combined to drive in all four runs.
Noteworthy: Fried picked off two baserunners in the first inning, giving him three pickoffs in three starts with the Stripers (tied for the team lead). Grissom extended his team-best on-base streak to 24 games. Gwinnett went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left 12 on base.
