Charlotte Knights News Release
(DURHAM, NC) - Right fielder Stephen Piscotty launched a three-run home run to propel the Charlotte Knights to a 6-2 win over the Durham Bulls on Saturday night from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC. The win snapped Charlotte's seven-game losing streak.
LHP John Parke (2-5, 6.45) started the game and was sharp over five innings to earn his second win of the season. Parke allowed just one run on two hits over his five innings of work. He was backed by a solid offensive night from his teammates.
The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning thanks to an RBI double off the bat of shortstop Erik González. The Bulls quickly tied the game in the bottom of the second with a home run from Austin Shenton, his third of the season.
With the game tied at 1-1, Piscotty gave the Knights a lead in the top of the third inning with his sixth home run of the season. The three-run home run gave the Knights a 4-1 lead at that point. In the top of the seventh inning, third baseman Lenyn Sosa hit his 15th home run of the season, a two-run home run. At that point, the Knights possessed a 6-1 lead.
Durham scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to make it a 6-2 game when Ruben Cardenas hit his 17th home run of the season. The home run marked Durham's final run of the game as the Charlotte bullpen was sharp in relief on Saturday night.
RHP Alex Colomé pitched a strong ninth inning to close the door on Charlotte's first win of the series.
The Knights will conclude the six-game series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) on Sunday evening. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. from Durham, NC on Sunday.
