Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Former Everett Silvertips defenseman Jake Christiansen has officially been called up to the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League on Friday, Dec. 10.

Christiansen, 22, spent five seasons with the Silvertips from 2015 through 2020, amassing 50 goals and 102 assists through 297 Western Hockey League games. Since signing with the Columbus Blue Jackets as an undrafted free agent in 2020, Christiansen has played 49 games for the American Hockey League's Cleveland Monsters. At the time of his call-up, Christiansen led his team and was second amongst AHL defensemen on the season with 18 points through 21 games (five goals, 13 assists). League leader Scott Perunovich was called up in November for the St. Louis Blues.

"He's been on kind of a heater ever since he came back to us from the American League in his last year here," noted Silvertips associate coach Louis Mass, who coached Christiansen for two seasons from 2018-to-2020. "There was always that talent there, he's always been a special player. But he put in a lot of work in the summer. He's a guy who always went home, worked with skills coaches and put the time in. When you take a player like him who's really talented and intelligent and committed to the offseason development, it's only a matter of time. It's no surprise to see the success he's had."

The Columbus Blue Jackets will play in Seattle at Climate Pledge Arena Saturday, Dec. 11 to play the Kraken. Should Christiansen dress, he would be the second Everett Silvertip to make their NHL debut in Seattle, with Connor Dewar having played his first game with the Minnesota Wild on Oct. 28.

Christiansen is now the sixth Silvertips alum to be listed on an NHL active roster, joining Radko Gudas (Florida Panthers), Carter Hart (Philadelphia Flyers), Jujhar Khaira (Chicago Blackhawks), Byron Froese (Calgary Flames) and Ryan Murray (Colorado Avalanche). Connor Dewar has since been re-assigned to the AHL after playing in four contests with the Wild. Former Everett Silvertip Garrett Pilon has skated in two NHL games this season for the Washington Capitals, even netting his first career NHL goal.

TIPS IN THE NHL

After selections on Jul. 24 for Niko Huuhtanen (Tampa Bay) and Olen Zellweger (Anaheim), the Everett Silvertips have elevated 29 players to be drafted by NHL clubs, including ten in the previous four years. Last season, three Silvertips were selected in the draft - Gage Goncalves (Tampa Bay) in the second round, Kasper Puutio (Florida) in the fifth round, and Ronan Seeley (Carolina) in the seventh round. Entering the 2021-22 season, their 19th in the WHL, the Silvertips have now helped promote 22 players to make their NHL debut.
