Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Two goals in just over two minutes and three goals in total in the second period sunk the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night in Swift Current.

The Warriors dropped a 4-1 game to the Broncos at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex to open up the weekend home-and-home series.

Josh Hoekstra had the lone goal for Moose Jaw, breaking up the shutout with 37 seconds to play in regulation, while Carl Tetatchuk made 27 saves in the loss.

The first period was scoreless thanks to a massive save from Tetachuk on Broncos forward Matthew Ward during a penalty shot late in the frame to keep Swift Current off the board.

Moose Jaw's second period struggles continued as the Broncos struck three times in the period to take a 3-0 after 40.

Sam McGinley opened the scoring for the Broncos just 4:12 into the period and Raphael Pelletier followed that up 2:30 later to quickly make it 2-0.

The Broncos continued to pressure the Warriors as the period went on and Josh Filmon made it a three-goal lead with 4:35 left in the frame.

Pelletier scored his second of the night into an empty net during a power play for the Warriors in the final two minutes.

Hoekstra ensured the Warriors didn't get shutout with his first of the season with 37 seconds to play.

The Warriors outshot 16-6 in the final period and 34-31 in the game.

Moose Jaw 1-for-4 on the power play, while going 4-for-4 on the penalty kill in the loss.

The Warriors and Broncos will meet again on Saturday night at Mosaic Place to complete the home-and-home series. Puck drops at 7 p.m.

Saturday's game is the Warriors annual Teddy Bear and Toque Toss Game in support of the Salvation Army. Fans are asked to put their bears and toques in bags before throwing them on the ice.
