December 11, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Portland, Ore. - The Spokane Chiefs opened the scoring for their four-game stint against the Portland Winterhawks, but went cold for the rest of the contest, losing 4-1 on the road.
The Chiefs got things going at 12:27 in the first period when Cordel Larson sniped the puck into the upper corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Forward Bear Hughes (13) and defenseman Graham Sward (12) each notched an assist on the power play goal.
The rest of the game was all Winterhawks, as they went on to score three goals in the second period starting with a power play goal of their own from forward Gabe Klassen at 1:37. This was soon followed by goals from Aiden Litke and Jonah Bevington at 6:52 and 8:05, respectively. It was Bevington's first career WHL goal.
Portland came out the gate hot after the break, scoring their fourth and final goal just 18 seconds into the third period. This time it was winger Dawson Pasternak with help from Jaydon Dureau.
Forwards James Form and Chase Bertholet both made their debuts in Chiefs jerseys after being acquired from the Winnipeg ICE in exchange for Jack Finley earlier this week.
The Chiefs were outshot by the Winterhawks 34-26 and went 1-for-5 on the power play and 1-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The teams will face each other again tomorrow night in Portland before heading to Spokane for back-to-back games again next weekend.
