Regina Pats News Release

Regina, Sask. - In the Pats first Teddy Bear Toss Night in two years, five different goal scorers and a hot power play led them to a 5-2 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders.

Tanner Howe brought the teddy bears raining down onto the ice with the game's first goal under seven minutes in, while Layton Feist and Logan Nijhoff also added power play markers. Zane Rowan scored the game-winning-goal early in the second period, and Cole Carrier added an empty-net goal.

Matthew Kieper was steady all evening long, finishing with 25 saves, but the Pats went all out defensively in the final frame, limiting the Raiders to just six shots on net thanks to some sound structure and sacrifice.

Prince Albert got two goals from newly acquired forward Carson Latimer in the loss.

The Pats next contest is Saturday, December 11 on the road in Brandon against the Wheat Kings.

THE GOALS

1st Period

REG 1-0 at 6:37 - Tanner Howe (9), assisted by Cole Dubinsky (8) and Ryker Evans (20) (PPG) // Howe one-timed a low shot past goaltender Tikhon Chaika after a cross-ice feed from Dubinsky.

REG 2-0 at 14:04 - Layton Feist (1), assisted by Stanislav Svozil (15) and Logan Nijhoff (7) (PPG)// Feist put home a rebound off the pad after Svozil threw one to the net.

2nd Period

PA 1-2 at 0:30 - Carson Latimer (8), assisted by Nolan Allan and Remy Aquilon // Allan's point shot hit Latimer in the midsection and slowly dribbled just past the left pad of Kieper.

REG 3-1 at 2:36 - Zane Rowan (2), assisted by Matteo Michels (1) // Rowan caused a turnover deep in the Prince Albert zone along the wall, then took the puck and beat Chaika low from in tight.

REG 4-1 at 5:26 - Logan Nijhoff (8), assisted by Stanislav Svozil (16) and Alex Geci (1) (PPG) // Nijhoff batted the puck out of the air and into the back of the net after Geci threw a shot on goal from the left circle.

PA 2-4 at 17:35 - Carson Latimer (9), assisted by Ozzy Wiesblatt // A centering pass from Latimer went off the stick of Carrier trying to defend in front and into the Pats net.

3rd Period

REG 5-2 at 19:54 - Cole Carrier (10), assisted by Ryker Evans (21) (ENG)// Evans flipped the puck high out of the zone in the dying seconds, which gave Carrier time to race to it and put it into the empty net for his 10th of the season.

GOALTENDING BATTLE

Regina: Matthew Kieper only faced six shots in the third period, but was steady all evening, finishing with 25 saves on 27 shots.

Medicine Hat: Tikhon Chaika allowed four goals on 25 shots.

THEY SAID IT

Head Coach John Paddock on the win: "The power play was real good. Got us off to a good start and two more goals after that. I thought that we played really hard. Simplified a little bit in the third period compared to the second and the kids really sacrificed in the third period with penalties...to get Logan [Nijhoff] and [Cole] Dubinsky back, that's a trade-off sort of for Connor leaving the lineup. Those are two veteran players that are two of our top four or five forwards on our team...they're important guys and when we get all our guys back, we should be a pretty decent team."

Paddock on Teddy Bear Toss Night: "It's an exciting thing for the fans and it's obviously for a great cause: those are the two key things. I think the players get a little bit more - don't want to say pumped up, but it's exciting for the players to score. When Pavel Padakin was here, he scored three in a row, a couple in Calgary and one for us. So it has a little bit of excitement to it."
