Ice Dogs Fall to Idaho, 3-1

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Ice Dogs lost 3-1, the team's second consecutive defeat following a five-game win streak, in a West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) against Idaho at Long Beach Arena Friday night. The teams finish the three-game series Saturday at the Long Beach Arena at 7:00 p.m.

Long Beach (5-4-0) scored with 12 seconds left in the opening period when Tomas Kapusta fed Chris Peyton, who beat Steelhead goaltender Jason Cugnet (5-3-1) with a backhand shot. The assist was Kapusta's eighth point in six games.

Idaho (10-4-1) evened the game on a power-play when Cory Morgan's rebound from a Marty Flichel slapshot found the back of the net. The Steelheads took the lead when Flichel scored with 22 seconds remaining in the second period. It was the second power-play goal of period, a period in which Long Beach was outshot 19-2.

With the Ice Dogs pressing in the third period, Dan Shermerhorn stole the puck and beat Long Beach netminder Mike Buzak (4-2-0) at the 18:20 mark to put the game out of reach.
