Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Clayton Read and Dean Tiltgen each had a goal and two assists as the San Diego Gulls rolled to a 4-1 win over the Anchorage Aces Friday night before 2,871 at Sullivan Arena.

Read, who played parts of three seasons in Anchorage, scored just 24 seconds into the game to give San Diego an early 1-0 lead. The Aces began to seize the momentum midway through the first period and tied the contest on a goal by Eric Landry at 9:38, his first in an Anchorage uniform. The Aces controlled the final 15 minutes of the opening frame and the first five minutes of the second, but a tripping call against Dean Larson set the stage for a dramatic shift in momentum back in the Gulls' direction.

Tiltgen tipped in a Trevor Sherban drive from the point at 6:54 on the ensuing power play, and when Trent Clark blasted a slapshot off the left post and into the back of the net, San Diego had broken open the game in a span of 1:04. With the Gulls in the midst of a two-man advantage, Mike Garrow rifled home a one-timer from the high slot for a commanding three-goal margin with 4:19 remaining in the second period.

San Diego's defense turned out the lights over the final 20 minutes, permitting Anchorage only two shots in a scoreless frame. The Gulls, who won for only the third time in 10 games, outshot the Aces (2-10) by a count of 29-18 for the game, which included four fights, one of them a lopsided decision for Landry over San Diego's Dennis Mullen. In his first pro game for Anchorage, Jiri Jakes was credited with an assist on Landry's goal and played a regular shift alongside B.J. Young and Kimbi Daniels.

The Aces and Gulls, who improved to 6-6-1 with the victory, continue their three game series tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. The first 1,500 fans arriving at Sullivan Arena will receive an ice scraper, courtesy of Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
