Kingfish Sign Leitza

November 16, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release

The Baton Rouge Kingfish announced today that they have signed goaltender Brian Leitza.

Leitza returns to Baton Rouge where he played in 48 games last year and finished the season with a 3.17 goals against average and a 19-18-7 record.

"He's a big technically correct goaltender," said Kingfish head coach Cam Brown. "Brian is always in position and handles his rebounds well."

The 6'2", 224-pound net minder recorded two shutouts last season with the Kingfish as he blanked the Jackson Bandits on November 14th and held the New Orleans Brass off the board on December 29th.

"On a bad day he is a good goaltender," said Brown, "and on a good day, he is unbeatable."

Leitza was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 11th round of the 1994 NHL entry draft with the 284th pick overall.

The Lake Villa, Illinois native began the season overseas with the Cardiff Devils in England.

Sunday is ‘Tiger Nite' at the ‘Fish Tank' as the Kingfish take on the Pensacola Ice Pilots at 4:05 p.m. The Kingfish will wear special "Tiger" jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game.
