Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors won their fourth consecutive hockey game by handing the Fresno Falcons a 4-1 defeat in front of 6,185 fans at Centennial Garden on Friday night. It was the largest crowd of the season for Bakersfield.

Shawn Byram picked up his third goal of the season at 6:56 of the first period to open up a 1-0 lead. Byram skated off the end boards and tucked the puck under Fresno netminder Mark Gowan for the score. Later in the first, Jon Sorg blasted home a one-timer on the 5-on-3 power play for the 2-0 lead after one period.

The Condors scored again in the first minute of the second frame. Jamie Cooke intercepted a pass at the Fresno blueline while shorthanded, skated in and fired off two shots at the Fresno net. The second one snuck past Gowan for the 3-0 lead. Fresno got on the board a few minutes later with a rebound chance, but the Condors answered right back. Jason Ralph re-directed a Paul Willett shot from the blueline for the fourth Condors goal, and they led 4-1 after 40 minutes.

There was no scoring in the final frame, but the fighting broke out late. The Falcons took out their frustrations, initiating much of the shenanigans, and when all was said and done, over 140 minutes in penalties were handed out during the game. The final score was 4-1 Condors, as they improved to 5-0 this season against the Falcons.

Bakersfield remains in second place, seven points behind first-place Idaho, who defeated Long Beach tonight 3-1. The Condors have four games in hand on the Steelheads. San Diego defeated Anchorage 4-1 in the other WCHL match of the night.

Bakersfield heads to Fresno on Saturday night for a 7:30pm start at Selland Arena. All Condors games home and away can be heard on KGEO AM 1230, with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 minutes prior to game time.
