Hat Trick for Reading Nights This Weekend
November 7, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that The Suwanee Dental Care Hat Trick for Reading Nights are this weekend as the Gladiators host the Florida Everblades on Friday, November 11th and Saturday, November 12th.
The Gladiators recorded their first sellout in team history with a record crowd of 11,355 during last season's Suwanee Dental Care Hat Trick for Reading night on November 5, 2004. Word-of-mouth about the program among teachers and schools has spread so quickly that the program now includes elementary schools in six different counties reaching schools as far away as College Park, Alpharetta, Gainesville, Winder, Jefferson & Cumming as well as several area home school associations.
"The Hat Trick for Reading program has grown to be one of our main educationally-related community programs during the first part of our season," said Gladiators President & General Manager Steve Chapman. "We are excited that it has been effective in providing North Metro Atlanta area teachers a great reward program to encourage students to read. We are particularly proud that the program has grown not only within Gwinnett County, but in the North Metro Atlanta area as well."
Last season, the response was so overwhelming to the Hat Trick for Reading Program that the Gladiators originally added an additional game to accommodate a larger response from the program this year. This season, the game on Friday, November 11th will be dedicated to Gwinnett County Public Schools only while the game on Saturday, November 12th will be dedicated to other North Metro Atlanta area school systems, Private and Home School groups
Participation in the program was up 27 % over last year with 85 local elementary schools in Gwinnett, Hall, Forsyth, DeKalb, Fulton, Jackson and Barrow Counties taking part in the program. Over 65,000 bookmarks were distributed to the schools with over 22,000 ticket vouchers awarded to students completing the program.
The Gladiators Suwanee Dental Care Hat Trick for Reading program rewards kids in grades K-5 with two tickets to a selected Gladiators game for reading three books and providing proof to their teacher of completing the program. In addition, the families of children that complete the program are offered a discount ticket offer so that they may join in the fun should they wish.
For more information about the program, or if you are a parent or teacher at a school that did not participate this season but would like to get more information on the program, please contact the Gladiators director of Community Relations, Jim Hall at 770-497-5109 or by e-mail at jhall@gwinnettgladiators.com.
The Gwinnett Gladiators continue the 2005-06 ECHL season at the Arena at Gwinnett Center as they host the Florida Everblades on Friday, November 11th at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators offer several ticket packages for different needs as well as group outings, suites and birthday parties. For more information call 770-497-5100 or log on to gwinnettgladiators.com.
The Gladiators play all 36 home games at the Arena at Gwinnett Center located on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth and are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers.
