The current record is 1,437 by members of the Toukley Junior Rugby League Club, at the Darren Kennedy Oval, NSW, Australia and filmed for Guinness World Records (Seven Network) on June 4th, 2005.
RECORD-BREAKING:
The six-game winning streak to start the season set a Steelheads' club record as the best start since the team's inception in 1997. The previous record was set in 2001-02 when Idaho, then a member of the West Coast Hockey League, won it first five games.
SCORIN' BIG TIME: Former Idaho Steelheads centerman (2003-04) Zenon Konopka scored his first goal in the National Hockey League (NHL) last night at home in an Anaheim Mighty Ducks sweater. The Ducks lost the game to the Minnesota Wild, 4-3, in the shootout.
Konopka was quoted in the Orange County Register today, "It felt really good to contribute on the score sheet, and contribute to getting the point, but this was a tough loss." Konopka's goal came eight seconds after he had finished serving his first NHL penalty, an interference call he picked up at the end of the first period. "My job is to kind of stir the pot a bit," Konopka said. "We were down in the game. I was just trying to have a good shift and get the guys energized. Luckily for me, the puck came out at the right time and I put it home."
Konopka has appeared in five games with Anaheim after being called up from the American Hockey League's Portland Pirates on October 30th. While with the Steelheads, the 6-1, 215-pounder scored 28 points (6g, 22a) in 23 regular-season games, and notched 17 points (9g, 8a) in 17 ECHL playoff games when the team captured the Kelly Cup Championship.
