Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, have announced that three new players have joined the Grrrowl after completing their final seasons in the Canadian Hockey League. Forward DYLAN STANLEY comes to Greenville from the WHL's Tri-City Americans, forward DAVID HERRING joins the Grrrowl from the OHL's Erie Otters, and defenseman MIKE KNIGHT will make his ECHL debut tonight after recently completing his final season with the OHL's Plymouth Whalers.
The Grrrowl have also announced that MARIS ZIEDINS has been loaned to the Latvian National Team and COLIN SHIELDS has been loaned to Great Britain's National Team, as both have been asked to play in the upcoming IIHF World Championships in Austria. Rochester, NY native SAM PAOLINI has been loaned to the AHL's Rochester Americans, while TYLER KNIGHT has been placed on the 30-day injured reserve list.
Stanley spent five seasons with Tri-City, posting 113 goals and 280 points in 339 regular season games. The 21-year old led his team in scoring three years in a row, and had 93 points in 2002-03 with 34 goals and 59 assists in 72 games. In his most recent season, the 5-10, 182-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta had 51 points for the Americans. Stanley will wear the number 7 for the Grrrowl tonight in Columbia.
Knight spent time with the OHL's Belleville Bulls and Plymouth Whalers in his four-year junior career. The 6-1, 210-pound blueliner racked up assists and penalty minutes in his most recent season with the Whalers, earning the distinction as the team's Defenseman of the Year. Knight totaled 48 points on eight goals and 40 assists, while recording 126 PIMs in 64 games. Acquired by Plymouth from Belleville on the trade deadline in 2004, Knight has played 257 total games in the OHL. The 20-year-old native of Toronto, Ontario will wear number 19 for the Grrrowl.
Herring has spent his entire junior career with the OHL's Erie Otters, participating in the Memorial Cup in 2002. The 6-1, 205-pound forward played 45 games for the Otters in 2004-05, registering 11 points and 147 PIMs. In 216 regular season games with Erie, the 21-year-old has accumulated 620 penalty minutes since the 2001-02 season. A native of Murray River on Prince Edward Island, Herring will sport the number 10 jersey tonight in Columbia.
Greenville has three remaining regular seasons left, and is still battling to move up in the American Conference Standings. The Grrrowl play in Columbia, SC tonight, in Charlotte, NC Friday, and return to the BI-LO Center Saturday to host Pee Dee in the regular season finale.
