Flyers Coates to Join Royals Telecast

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced the Philadelphia Flyers TV Color Analyst Steve Coates has agreed to join Royals play-by-play voice, John Curtis, on the Royals telecast tomorrow when the Royals host the Toledo Storm.

Coates is in his 23rd year of broadcasting for the Philadelphia Flyers. The late great Gene Hart asked Coates to join him on Flyers radio broadcasts beginning in 1980 and he has remained with the organization ever since. He is most recognized for Coatesy's Corner, which airs on Flyers telecasts in the first intermission.

Steve Coates enjoyed a seven-year professional career after graduating from Michigan Tech University in 1973. The majority of his career was spent in the American Hockey League with five teams. The Toronto, Ontario native played for Richmond, Springfield, Maine, Philadelphia and Syracuse in the AHL. He began his career in Des Moines with the International Hockey League's Des Moines Capitols. The highlight of Coatesy's career was in the 1976-77 season when he suited up for five games for the Detroit Red Wings. He tallied one goal and registered 24 penalty minutes in his only NHL stint.

The Reading Royals, in cooperation with Comcast, Service Electric and Blue Ridge Cable Systems, will make Royals hockey available to nearly 400,000 homes in the Reading and surrounding areas. In addition, the NHL Network and America One will air both games as the ECHL game of the week.

The Royals finish off the regular season at home searching for their fifth straight victory as they meet the Toledo Storm tomorrow in the Sovereign Center. It's Fan Appreciation Night in the Sovereign Center. The first 2,000 fans, 12-and-under, receive a Ryan Flinn Bobblehead. In addition, the first 3,000 adults receive a one-year subscription to the Sporting News. Ryan Flinn will be at the game signing autographs on the concourse! Reading and Toledo drop the puck at 7:05 p.m.
