Karpa Assigned to Syracuse; Two Defensemen Signed

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls announced Wednesday that defenseman David Karpa has been assigned to the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch. The Gulls also announced Wednesday the signing of defenseman Chester Ferreira.

Karpa had 12 points (2g, 10a) and 65 penalty minutes in 20 games for the Gulls. He was also a +3. He signed with San Diego on Feb. 12. Karpa has played 557 games in the NHL with Quebec, Anaheim, Carolina and New York (Rangers).

Ferreira joins San Diego after spending the last four years at Curry College, in the ECAC Northeast Division (NCAA Division III). Curry won the 2005 ECAC Northeast Championship this season and Ferreira was named to the First-Team All-ECAC.

San Diego closes out the season with a three-game homestand, which starts Wednesday against the Idaho Steelheads at 7:05 p.m. It will be the last "Wacky Wednesday" of the season, featuring "Pooch Party III." All fans are invited to bring their dog to the game!!! The Gulls will then host the Victoria Salmon Kings for the first time on Friday and Saturday, April 9. The first 5,000 fans at Friday's game will receive a special "Faces of Champions" Gulls picture, presented by zerodogentertainment.com. Saturday's game features a hat giveaway, presented by Dynamic Physical Therapy, to the first 10,000 fans and a post-game jersey auction, which will be held inside the ipayOne Center Arena Club.
