Augusta Lynx rookie netminder Chad Collins has been named Runner-Up for Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week honors for March 28 â April 3.
Collins, who appeared in three games for the Lynx last week, compiled a 2-0-0 record along with a 2.20 GAA and a .943 save percentage. He recorded two periods of relief work on Tuesday, March 29th against Columbia where he allowed one goal over two periods of work and made 13 saves in his ECHL debut. Getting the starting nod Friday, April 1st in Gwinnett, Collins backstopped the Lynx to a 3-2 win with 47 saves, followed by a 4-3 shootout win at home against Mississippi on Saturday, April 2nd in which he turned aside 40 Sea Wolves shots through overtime and all four shooters faced in the shootout.
"I'm just thankful for the opportunity to play at this level," Collins said Tuesday. "I've gotten a few breaks this year that have helped me, and I'm just trying to make the most of every opportunity that comes my way."
The 5-8, 167 lb. Guelph, Ontario native did not play pro hockey last season, and ended up in the Southern Professional Hockey League with the Fayetteville Fire Antz to start the year. While there, he compiled a 2.48 GAA and .922 save percentage and a 25-13-0 record. Those numbers earned him both SPHL Rookie of the Year and Goaltender of the Year honors, plus an election to the SPHL All-Star Team.
