Florida's MacKay Named Sun National Bank ECHL Saver Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Tyler MacKay of the Florida Everblades is the Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month for March.

The 25-year-old goaltender was 9-1-0 with a goals-against average of 1.60 and a save percentage of .931. He allowed two goals or less in nine of his 10 starts while helping the Everblades go 10-3-1 for the month to clinch a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the seventh consecutive year.

A runner-up for ECHL Saver of the Week on March 22 and April 5, MacKay won his first six starts in March to improve to 13-2-2 while allowing two goals or less in all six games to lower his goals-against average to 2.00 while raising his save percentage to .926. After a three-game sweep of Louisiana, MacKay had 25 saves in a 3-2 overtime win at Mississippi on March 11 and had 18 saves in a 2-0 win at Greenville on March 19. Following a 3-2 loss at Charlotte on March 20, MacKay won his next three starts, including two road wins against East Division leader Columbia. In his last 13 starts, MacKay is 12-1-0 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 1.68 and a save percentage of .929.

Florida acquired the 5-11 and 175-pound MacKay in a February 4 trade with Atlantic City where MacKay was 0-4-0 with a goals-against average of 3.41 and a save percentage of .866 in four games. Since joining the Everblades, MacKay is 17-3-2 with two shutouts. He is tied for fifth in the ECHL with a goals-against average of 1.96 while his save percentage of .931 ranks sixth in the league.

MacKay began his professional career in 2001-02 and was 16-12-1 with a goals-against average of 2.83 in 35 games with Wheeling and 17-5-2 with a goals-against average of 2.24 in 2003-04 with Wheeling.

A native of Deschambault Lake, Saskatchewan, MacKay played four seasons in the Western Hockey League with Saskatoon and Spokane, going 70-23-12 with a goals-against average of 3.58 and a save percentage of .872.

Runners Up: Sean Fields, Gwinnett (6-1-1, 1.96 GAA, .930 save pct.), Barry Brust, Reading (6-1-1, 1.48 GAA, .949 save pct.) and Phil Sauve, Mississippi (5-1-1, 1.81 GAA, .945 save pct.).
