Stingrays' Tenute Named CCM Vector ECHL Rookie Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - South Carolina center Joe Tenute is the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for March.

The 5-9 and 185-pound Tenute led the Stingrays in March with 22 points (9g-13a) and he was a +13 in 13 games as South Carolina went 9-3-1 for the month to advance to the postseason for an ECHL record 12th time in its 12 seasons.

Tenute, who scored a goal for the American Conference in the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game, opened the month scoring a point in nine straight games (6g-11a) to extend his scoring streak to an ECHL season-high 14 games (8g-16a). Tenute tied the ECHL season highs for assists (5) and points (6) in a 7-3 win against Texas on March 8. During the month, he had six multiple-point games, including multiple-goal games against Louisiana on March 12, East Division leader Columbia on March 18 and at Greenville on March 29.

Tenute, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on April 2, leads ECHL rookies with 34 goals and 73 points. He ranks third among all ECHL players in goals and fifth in scoring. He is tied for the rookie lead with 23 power-play points and ranks second with 39 assists.

Selected in the eighth round (261st overall) by New Jersey in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Tenute played for seasons for Sarnia in the Ontario Hockey League, scoring 271 points (95g-176a) in 253 games, including a career-high 112 points (41g-71a) in 2002-03.
