Grizzlies Erase 4-2 Deficit Late: Fall 5-4 in Shootout

Loveland, Colorado - The Utah Grizzlies (12-6-0-1) battled back from a 4-2 deficit late in the third period and fell 5-4 to the Colorado Eagles in a shootout Saturday night at Budweiser Events Center.

Paul McIlveen finished off his hat trick, with goals 1:25 apart at 14:09 of the third period and 15:34 to get Utah back into the game. Shane Owen made several stellar saves down the stretch to push the game past regulation and get Utah their come from behind standings point on the road.

Utah built 1-0 and 2-1 first period leads with John Armstrong and McIlveen scoring early. Utah though battled penalties in the first period, killing 1:31 down five-on-three in the first four minutes and a four minute minor late in the frame that Colorado tied the game at two on.

The Eagles broke the 2-2 tie with a second period shorthanded goal and took a 4-2 lead 7:10 into the third period on a delayed penalty.

Utah leading scorer Mitch Fadden added three assists in the game. Shane Owen faced 42 shots, stopping 38 as the Grizzlies hung tough in the contest.

Utah lost the shootout portion 2-1 as two Utah shooters both had a chance to tie late.

Utah and Colorado meet again Sunday in Loveland. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The Grizzlies return home Wednesday, December 14 and Friday, December 16 for 7:05 p.m. face-offs.
