Stingrays Collect Over 3,000 Stuffed Animals on Teddy Bear Toss Night

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (12-8-0-1) fell 2-1 to the Kalamazoo Wings (12-6-0-1) in front of 3,084 Saturday night in the Stingrays' annual Teddy Bear Toss game benefiting Debi's Kids and Charleston County Recycling Awareness Night at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Stingrays collected over 3,000 stuffed animals.

K-Wings forward Nick Sirota opened the scoring at 7:19 of the first period firing a shot past the glove of Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer (L, 26 saves on 28 shots) from between the faceoff circles. Forward Trent Daavettila and defenseman Harry Young earned the assists.

Forward Brandon Svendsen grabbed the game-winning maker for the K-Wings on the power play 30 seconds into the second period. Forward Justin Taylor and defenseman Eric Kattelus registered assists.

The Stingrays cut the lead in half and sent thousands of teddy bears to the ice with a third-period tally from forward David de Kastrozza at 5:14 tapping in a pass from forward Anthony Maiani over the glove of K-Wings netminder Riley Gill (W, 27 saves on 28 shots). Forward Joe Pereira added the second assist. The K-Wings ended the night 1-for-5 on the power play while the Stingrays went 0-for-6.

The Stingrays kick off a three-game in three-night road trip on Friday, December 9 against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:35 p.m. at the Bi-Lo Center and return to the North Charleston Coliseum for Toys for Tots presented by Count on News 2 WCBD on Friday, December 16 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m.
