Idaho Steelheads News Release
(Las Vegas, NV) - Ash Goldie and Josh Lunden each had a goal and assist as the Las Vegas Wranglers salvaged a weekend split with the Idaho Steelheads with a 4-1 victory.
The Wranglers got the win despite another stellar effort in net by Idaho's Jerry Kuhn. One night after setting the team's single-game record with 55 saves in a shootout win, Kuhn turned aside 50 Las Vegas shots. No Idaho goaltender had ever made 50 saves and now Kuhn has done it two nights in a row.
The game was scoreless well into the second period before Las Vegas broke the ice on Josh Lunden's first of the year. The Wranglers would extend the lead on an Ash Goldie one-timer at the 14:13 mark of the second period. Las Vegas would add a third goal before the period ended on the power play as Goldie slid a perfect pass from the far corner through the crease to the near post, where Scott Campbell touched it home to make it a 3-0 game.
Each team scored once in the third, Mike Madill's first of the year on the power play for Las Vegas and Idaho broke up the shutout on Jacob Cepis's seventh of the campaign. It was an unassisted goal as he carried the puck down the left-hand side and beat David Brown five-hole to break up the shutout bid.
Kuhn stopped 50 of 54 in the loss, while Brown stopped 16 of 17 in the win. Las Vegas was 2-4 on the power play while Idaho had only one abbreviated power play opportunity - just four seconds - and could not score.
The Steelheads return home on December 7 to begin a homestand against Colorado. Tickets are available by calling the CenturyLink Arena box office (208.331.TIXS) or by logging on to www.idahosteelheads.com .
