Ontario Reign News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (10-6-1-1), proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, moved into second place in the Pacific Division with a 4-0 shutout of the Stockton Thunder (9-7-1-2) before 5,041 at Stockton Arena on Friday. Derek Couture scored twice and Chris Carrozzi stopped all 40 of the shots he faced as the Reign defeated the Thunder on their home ice. The win advanced Reign coach Jason Christie into a fifth-place tie for all-time ECHL coaching wins with 317.

Couture became the first Reign player to hit double-digit goals as he scored his tenth at 14:47 of the first period. The Ontario winger jumped out of the penalty box and raced to the Stockton net late in the first period. C.J. Stretch hit him in stride and Couture beat Thomas Heemskerk on his second chance to give Ontario a 1-0 lead.

Just twenty-six seconds into the third period, Steven Tarasuk gained the Thunder blue line and dropped the puck for Couture who fired a shot past Heemskerk from the top of the right circle to give Ontario a 2-0 advantage. C.J. Stretch provided Ontario a cushion as he tallied his eighth goal of the season at 12:43. Stretch took a pass from Couture, skated in patiently on Heemskerek and flipped the puck into the top of the net. Tristan King scored an unassisted goal at 18:23 in acrobatic fashion, as he found twine in midair while being tripped by the Stockton netminder.

Carrozzi (1-1-1) earned his first win with the Reign and the third shutout of his professional career. Heemskerk (6-3-0) stopped 28 of 32 in the loss.
