Utah Grizzlies News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - Utah Grizzlies Executive Vice-President Jerry McBurney announced today that Saturday, January 17th will be Gord Dineen Retirement Night at the 'E' Center when the Grizzlies host the Hartford Wolf Pack. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
Dineen played in a Grizzlies fanchise record 440 games between 1994-2000 and currently serves as the Assistant Coach for the American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons (the affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes). The Toronto native and current up-state New York resident also ranks among the franchise leaders in assists (2nd - 147), PIM's (5th - 393) and shots (5th - 547).
The second round selection of the New York Islanders (42nd overall) in the 1981 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft won consecutive International Hockey League (IHL) Turner Cup Championships with the Grizzlies in 1995 and 1996.
The two-time IHL All-Star was named the Grizzlies Outstanding Defenseman three times and once retired, had the trophy re-named to the Gord Dineen Trophy.
The veteran of 528 National Hockey League games is the only Grizzly to ever wear the #2 and will be present when the team retires that number into Grizzlies history on January 17th.
Since retiring from playing hockey, Dineen has served as an Assistant Coach in Louisville (AHL) and as a Head Coach in Macon and Richmond of the East Coast Hockey League as well as his current post with the Falcons.
Many of Dineen's teammates and other members of the hockey fraternity will be on hand for the festivities.
