Emery Named To Canadian All-Star Team
January 7, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, New York â The Binghamton Senators, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Ray Emery has been selected to play for the Canadian All-Star squad in the Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic in Grand Rapids, MI, February 9th, 2004.
Making his second all-star appearance in as many seasons, the second-year pro was the winning goaltender in last year's 10-7 win by the Canadian All-Stars in Portland, ME.
Emery entered the third period of that contest with PlanetUSA holding a 7-6 lead, but the Canadians scored three unanswered goals while Emery was perfect on nine shots faced to pick up the win.
Last year in his rookie season with Binghamton, Emery ranked in the top ten among AHL goaltenders with 27 wins (2nd), seven shutouts (T-1st), a .924 save percentage (T-2nd), 2923 minutes played (4th), and a 2.42 goals against average (9th).
Emery, 21, has appeared in 23 games this season with a record of 11-9-2 and a 2.16 GAA. Emery has two shutouts on the season, both 2-0 decisions over league-leading Bridgeport that came within a six-day span on December 26th and December 31st.
Emery, Ottawa's 4th round pick (99th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, has four NHL appearances on his resume with the parent Ottawa Senators. In his only action this season with Ottawa, he was named the game's third star with 27 saves in a 6-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks December 18th at Corel Centre.
Emery was chosen to participate in this year's Pepsi All-Star Classic by fan balloting that took place exclusively on the league's official web site at www.theahl.com.
The complete roster for the Canadian All-Star Team can be accessed at www.theahl.com. The roster for PlanetUSA will be released by the American Hockey League on Wednesday, January 8th.
