Maple Leafs Prepare for 1000th Game Celebrations

The St. John's Maple Leafs are preparing to celebrate their 1000th Game in the American Hockey League this Saturday, January 10th when the team faces the Toronto Roadrunners. The evening will be filled with special presentations, promotional give-aways and prizes.

The Maple Leafs are only the 13th franchise in AHL History to reach 1000 games and in recognition of this achievement, the team has developed a "Wall of Fame" to honor outstanding contributions made to the hockey club.

On Saturday night the team will be unveiling the "St. John's Maple Leafs Wall of Fame" and will be inducting three (3) individuals who have indeed made outstanding contributions to the franchise. The pre-game ceremony will see the St. John's Maple Leafs recognize two (2) key personalities; former Chairman of the St. John's Maple Leafs Board of Directors, Mike Donovan and former St. John's Maple Leafs General Manager, Bill Watters, each whom played an integral role in bringing the Maple Leafs to St. John's. On Tuesday night, January 6, former Maple Leafs Vice-Chairman, Danny Williams, was recognized for his role with the Maple Leafs.

The team will present each member with a "Wall of Fameth Game picture. The portrait of each individual will also be placed on the new "Maple Leafs Wall of Fame" located on the Mile One Stadium concourse near sections 110 and 111.

Molson, the Maple Leafs platinum sponsor, will be hosting a special promotion during the first intermission. Five lucky fans entering the main entrance of Mile One Stadium will be selected to participate in a special shootout for great Molson giveaways and also have a chance to win their grand prize, Molson product free for a year!

Highlights of the St. John's Maple Leafs 1000th Game Celebrations also include:

• Each fan entering Mile One Stadium will receive a St. John's Maple Leafs 1000th Game commemorative poster.

• Pre-game: "Maple Leafs Wall Of Fame" inductions and Molson Cup presentation.

• Each 1000th fan entering Mile One Stadium will receive a St. John's Maple Leafs prize pack and an opportunity to participate in the Molson's Special Event during the first intermission.

• Guaranteed 50/50 draw of $5,000.

• During the 2nd intermission the Maple Leafs will be awarding a trip for two to Toronto through their "The Last Person Standing" promotion.

• Molson Section of the Period. If a pre-selected Maple Leaf player scores a goal the lucky section will receive a free Molson product.

• Ballot Contest: One lucky fan will receive $1000 in St. John's Sports & Entertainment dollars to use towards the purchase of tickets to any event at Mile One Stadium or to use at LeafWear throughout 2004.

• Throughout the game a lucky fan will be chosen from each section to receive great Maple Leafs prizes.

• There will be a post-game autograph session with the Maple Leaf players on the main concourse level.
