January 7, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release
(PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 7, 2004) - Philadelphia Phantoms right wing Kirby Law was among the 21 skaters and three goaltenders named today to the Canadian team roster for the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic, to be held Feb. 8-9 at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Law, who will be making his first AHL All-Star Game appearance, is one of just three players to appear in all 37 games for the Phantoms this year and leads the team in points (34) and goals (14). He ranks tied for seventh in the AHL in points, tied for 11th in goals and tied for 10th in assists (20) and power-play goals (5).
"I think both Kirby and Patrick Sharp have been pretty dynamic for us this year," said Phantoms head coach John Stevens. "Kirby is having his best year as a pro and he's a big part of our success."
The Toyota Phantoms Player of the Month for November, Law enjoyed a four-point night (2G, 2A) in Philadelphia's 6-2 win at Hershey and has put together point streaks of six and seven games during the first half of the season. In Philadelphia's last game on Jan. 4, he recorded three assists to become just the fifth player in club history to surpass 100 assists with the team.
A native of McCreary, Manitoba, Law began his pro career in 1998 as an undrafted free agent. He was acquired by the Flyers organization in a three-way trade with Atlanta and Carolina on March 14, 2000 and is currently in his fourth full season with the Phantoms. The 26-year-old, who has played in three career games with the Flyers, currently ranks third on the Phantoms' all-time goals list (82) and fourth in points (183) and games played (272).
The PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team roster will be announced on Thursday.
The 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic gets under way on Sunday, Feb. 8, with the 2004 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on Monday, Feb. 9, and will be televised live in the United States and Canada.
The Phantoms return to action tonight at 7:05 p.m. when they host the Hamilton Bulldogs at the Wachovia Spectrum. Philadelphia then plays at Springfield and Binghamton on Friday and Saturday.
