Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that rookie goaltender David LeNeveu (leh-NEHV-yoo) has been selected as a member of the Canadian AHL All-Star Team for the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic. The event will take place at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan beginning with the AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, February 8th and followed by the All-Star Game on Monday, February 9th.

LeNeveu, 20, has registered a .922 save percentage, 2.51 goals against average and a record of 7-8-1 with the Falcons this season. The first-year professional set a franchise record in making 55 saves in a 4-1 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on December 31st. The performance was one save short of the high in the AHL this season. LeNeveu stopped 30 shots in recording his first professional shutout in a 1-0 victory versus the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on November 29th.

"It's a great honor to be named to the All-Star Team," said LeNeveu. "I feel fortunate to be able to come in my first year and make a positive impact with the Falcons. It helps tremendously when the guys you're playing with have confidence in you."

LeNeveu was selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the second round (46th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and signed with the NHL club last July. Last season, the Fernie, British Columbia native was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award while setting the NCAA record for goals against average (1.20) as a sophomore at Cornell University.

LeNeveu's selection marks the fifth time a Falcons' goaltender has been named to the AHL All-Star Classic and the first time since 1999. Manny Legace was selected to the U.S. AHL All-Star Team in 1996. Scott Langkow was a member of the Canadian AHL All-Star Team in both 1997 and 1998. Robert Esche was chosen to play for the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star Team in 1999.

The non-starters for the AHL All-Star teams this season have been selected by a committee of AHL coaches. Rookie Wade Dubielewicz of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers has been selected the starting goaltender for the Canadian AHL All-Star Team through fan voting on the league web site, theahl.com.
