
Muir, Kelly To Represent Canada At 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic

MANCHESTER, NH - Defenseman Bryan Muir and center Steve Kelly will represent the Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, at the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic, to be held February 8-9 at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Both were named to the Canadian All-Star team. Members of the PlanetUSA team will be announced tomorrow. Muir, 30, is one of six starters named to the Canadian squad. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, is tied for the AHL scoring lead among defensemen with 24 points (6-18=24) in 31 games. Muir, who recently returned to the Monarchs after a brief stint with the Kings, also has 49 penalty minutes. Originally signed by the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent in 1996, Muir has appeared in 308 career AHL regular season games with the Monarchs, the Hershey Bears, the Portland Pirates, the Albany River Rats and the Hamilton Bulldogs, recording 136 points (45-91=136) and 547 penalty minutes.
Kelly, 27, is fifth in AHL scoring with 37 points (11-26=37) in 29 games. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Vancouver, British Columbia, is tied for the league lead with 26 assists. Originally selected by the Oilers in the first-round (6th overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, Kelly has appeared in 267 career AHL regular season games with the Monarchs, the River Rats and the Bulldogs, recording 236 points (72-164=236) and 565 penalty minutes.
Van Andel Arena is the home of the Grand Rapids Griffins, the host team for the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic. All-Star events get underway on Sunday, February 8 with the All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. ET. The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. ET on Monday, February 9. The All-Star Game will be televised live in the United States and Canada.
The Monarchs end a four-game homestand tonight (Wednesday, January 7) when they host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 7:05 p.m. Tonight's game will be the first-ever meeting between the teams.
