Gladiators Sign Sawruk

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that forward Alex Sawruk has been signed to a contract. The 6-foot and 180-pound forward played three games with Gwinnett last season.

Sawruk appeared in games on January 18th and 20th as well as March 29th during the 2006-07. The Sault Ste. Marie, MI native also played in 29 games with Gwinnett during the 2004-05 season.

In the 04-05 season, Sawruk tallied three goals and 8 assists for 11 points. He also collected 14 penalty minutes in his 29 games.

The right winger has compiled a total of 42 games in his ECHL career playing with Gwinnett and with the Louisiana Ice Gators. Sawruk has 21 total points in his career off of seven goals and 14 assists.

Sawruk should be available for the Gladiators' 7:35pm tilt with the South Carolina Sting Rays.

The Gladiators continue their fifth anniversary season on Saturday, February 2nd as they host the South Carolina Stingrays at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m. Catch all the play-by-play action in Saturday's game on WDUN, News Talk 550.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that has 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals. The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5.
