Idaho Steelheads News Release
Phoenix, AZ - Matt Zaba made 29 saves for his first professional shutout and Lance Galbraith registered three points (1g, 2a) as the Steelheads topped the RoadRunners 3-0 in front of 4,177 fans at the US Airways Center on Saturday night.
Zaba is now 5-0-0 with the Steelheads (25-14-7) to help his club earn a split of the two-game set against the RoadRunners (16-24-6). The victory moves the Steelheads to 19-8-1 since December 1 while giving them 57 points on the season, two shy of the West Division leading Victoria Salmon Kings.
Early in the third period Marty Flichel snapped a scoreless tie, flipping a shot over RoadRunners' goaltender Cody Rudkowsky (37 saves) at the 2:34 mark for his 12th of the season. John Lammers and Galbraith picked up the assists on what turned out to be the game-winner.
Galbraith increased the Steelheads' lead to 2-0 at 7:28 of the third, with Mike Sullivan and Blake Forsyth collecting the helpers.
In the final minute of regulation Taggart Desmet earned his 16th of the year, an empty-net, power play tally to round out the scoring with Galbraith completing his three-point night on the play.
Through 40 minutes the shots favored the Steelheads 31-17, including a 20-7 edge in the middle stanza.
The Steelheads finished with 40 shots to the RoadRunners 29. The visitors went one-for-six on the power play while the RoadRunners finished zero-for-four. After making 37 saves a night prior and picking up the win, Rudkowsky saw his mark fall to 9-16-3.
The Steelheads hit the road again next week for a three-game series against the Alaska Aces beginning on Friday, February 8. The puck drops at 7:11 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks.
