Fisher Cats Score Early, Dominate, 13-3

(Portland, ME) - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats scored five runs in the first inning off Tommy Hottovy (2-8) and never looked back, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs for the third straight day, 13-3 on Monday night at Hadlock Field. With the loss, Portland will finish under .500 during their 9-game homestand, which ends tomorrow night.

Jean Machi (1-2) worked two and 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Eric Fowler to earn his first win in the Blue Jays Organization. Machi retired 8 of 9 batters on no hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

Hottovy (2-8) allowed career highs in runs (9) and hits (12) over five innings, taking his second loss of the season against New Hampshire. The lefty entered the game with a streak of 25 and 2/3 innings without allowing a home run but surrendered two longs balls in the first three innings. Ryan Patterson blasted a three-run homer in the first and Juan Peralta clocked a two-run shot with one out in the third.

Bryan Pritz produced two of Portland's runs with an RBI double in the second inning and a run-scoring single in the eighth. The Sea Dogs struggled with runners-in-scoring position, going 2-for-12 and stranding 13 runners.

The Fisher Cats scored once in the second on Rob Cosby's run-scoring single. New Hampshire added a run in the fifth inning and scored four times off the Portland bullpen. The entire Fisher Cats lineup had a multi-hit performance and eight of nine starters scored at least one run.

Robinson Diaz and Aaron Mathews (league leader in batting average) each had three hits - Dustin Majewski went 3-for-3, RBI and reached base five times. New Hampshire had RBI's from seven of nine starters, including four from Patterson and two by Cosby and Peralta.

Dusty Brown reached base three times for the Sea Dogs with two walks and a double. Jeff Natale went 1-for-3 with a walk and a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.

Kyle Fernandes made his Double-A debut for Portland and allowed six hits and two runs in two and 2/3 innings. Hunter Jones surrendered three hits and two runs in one and 2/3 innings.

Portland closes out their homestand on Tuesday night against the Fisher Cats - game time is 6:00 PM. Lefty Daniel Haigwood (2-4, 4.50) goes opposite Kyle Yates (5-4, 4.40) in game four of the series.

Notes...Portland pitchers allowed 21 hits, one shy of the franchise record of 22 - last occurring on July 17, 2000 vs. Reading...Zach Borowiak was promoted before the game to Triple-A Pawtucket (Fernandes to Portland)...Jay Johnson had his hitting streak snapped at six games.
