Season-High Four Homers Not Enough for 'Wolves

The Akron Aeros downed the Erie SeaWolves for the third straight night with a 7-5 win at Jerry Uht Park on Monday night.

The Aeros struck first in the top of the first inning. Trevor Crowe led off the game and drew a walk. Asdrubal Cabrera singled to put runners on first and second with no outs. Jair Jurrjens then struck out Brian Barton for the first out but Michael Aubrey singled home Crowe for a 1-0 Akron lead

The SeaWolves responded in the bottom of the first inning. Andres Torres came to the plate with one out and he slammed his fifth home run of the season off of Akron starter Reid Santos, tying the game at 1-1. The hit for Torres extended his hitting streak to 12-straight games.

Erie went on to take its first lead of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Steve Torrealba led off the inning against Santos and he slammed his fourth home run of the season over the wall in left-center, giving Erie a 2-1 advantage.

The Aeros tied the ballgame up once again in the top of the fifth. David Wallace singled with one out. Argenis Reyes then hit what looked to be a double play ball, but on the play, the ‘Wolves could only get the runner at second and the inning continued. The next hitter, Crowe, doubled home Wallace, tying the game at 2-2.

Akron would regain the lead in the top of the sixth. Aubrey doubled with one out for his second hit of the game. Ryan Goleski came to the plate and came through with his second single of the game, scoring Aubrey, making it 3-2 Aeros.

The Aeros added to their lead in the top of the seventh, scoring in three consecutive innings, this time against reliever Matt Rusch. Crowe led off with a single for his second hit of the game and Cabrera was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Brian Barton singled to left field, scoring Crowe, for a 4-2 Akron lead. Aubrey then followed with his third hit of the night, a single off of Danny Zell, scoring Cabrera for a 5-2 lead. Zell induced a double play off the bat of Goleski for the first two outs of the inning, but Akron would again make the ‘Wolves pay with two outs as Rodney Choy Foo slammed a two-run home run for a 7-2 Aeros lead.

The SeaWolves cut into the Akron lead in the bottom of the eighth. Torrealba led off the inning with his second home run of the night, cutting the Akron lead down to 7-3. With one out in the inning, Torres drew a walk and scored on Mike Hollimon's eighth home run of the season, cutting the Aeros lead down to a pair of runs at 7-5, however, the ‘Wolves would get no closer, falling by that score.

Jurrjens took the loss for Erie going 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out for in dropping to 3-4 on the season.
