Five Reading Phillies Named EL All-Stars

Today, the Connecticut Defenders, in conjunction with the Eastern League, have announced the rosters for the 2007 Eastern League All Star Game, which will take place on Wednesday, July 11 at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Connecticut.

The 2007 Eastern League All Star Game will feature some of the brightest stars with the most promising futures in Minor League Baseball. The game will feature the stars of the Northern Division which consists of the Binghamton Mets, Connecticut Defenders, New Britain Rock Cats, New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Portland Sea Dogs, and Trenton Thunder, against the best of the Southern Division, which includes the Akron Aeros, Altoona Curve, Bowie Baysox, Erie SeaWolves, Harrisburg Senators, and Reading Phillies.

Each of the 12 teams will be represented by at least three players. Every team will have a pitcher and a position player that was voted on by the fans on-line and through text messaging. The rosters will have a total of 24 players on each team. The teams will be managed by the field staff of the host, Connecticut Defenders (Northern Division) and the defending Southern Division Champion Akron Aeros. Dave Machemer, the Defender manager and Tim Bogar of the Aeros will lead their respective teams.

The rosters will include top prospects and future stars. Eight of the 50 players are ranked among their respective minor league system's top 6 prospects. Clay Buchholz is not only an Eastern League All Star, but has also been named to pitch for the U.S. Futures Team, where they will take on the World Futures team, which will feature New Hampshire catcher Robinzon Diaz, also an Eastern League All Star. The Futures Game will take place on Sunday July 8 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, the site of the Major League All Star Game and the Major League affiliate of the Defenders.
