New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, had five players named Eastern League All Stars today. 3B Rob Cosby, C Robinzon Diaz, OF Aaron Mathews, SS Sergio Santos and RHP Tracy Thorpe were selected to the Northern Division All-Star Team for the Eastern League All-Star Game, scheduled for July 11 at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT.

"These five players have been major contributors on the field, and they have also served as tremendous role models to our fans," said Fisher Cats President/General Manager Rick Brenner. "We congratulate them on this achievement and know they will represent the Fisher Cats organization well as Northern Division All-Stars."

Cosby, 26, is batting .307 with six home runs and 33 RBI. He batted .322 in June and led the Fisher Cats with 12 doubles and 24 RBI during the month. Cosby was a 10th round draft pick by the Blue Jays in 1999.

Diaz, 23, leads all Eastern League catchers with a .321 AVG. He leads the Fisher Cats in hits (81) and is the toughest Fisher Cat to strike out (only 14 K in 252 AB). He will also represent the Blue Jays in the Major League Baseball All-Star Futures Game this Sunday at AT &T Park in San Francisco as a member of the World Team. Diaz was acquired by the Blue Jays as a non-drafted free agent in 2000.

Mathews, 25, leads the Eastern League in batting (.350) and tops New Hampshire in OBP (.400), SLG (.531) and triples (4). Toronto drafted Mathews out of Oregon State in the 19th round of the 2004 draft.

Santos, 23, is among the league leaders in a number of offensive categories. His 14 home runs rank third in the league, he is tied for second in extra-base hits (38) and his 23 doubles are tied for third. Santos, originally an Arizona Diamondbacks first round draft pick in 2002, was acquired by the Blue Jays in 2005 with Troy Glaus in a trade for Orlando Hudson and Miguel Batista.

Thorpe, 26, is 5-2 with four saves and a 3.77 ERA. His 31 appearances are tied for second in the league and most on the club. Among current players, Thorpe is tied for the team lead in victories (5) and his .198 opponent batting average is the best on the pitching staff. Over his last five outings, Thorpe is 2-0 with 3 saves, no runs and one hit allowed over 7.1 innings. He has struck out nine and walked two in that span. Thorpe was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 11th round of the 2000 draft out of Melbourne (FL) High School.

New Hampshire will host the 2008 Eastern League All-Star Game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium this Saturday to open a three game series against the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Saturday features American Resource Staffing Network's Atlas Fireworks Show, USA Subs Baseball Bingo, and George Weston Bakeries Salute to Bread.
