Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The Binghamton Mets jumped out to an early lead, but the Connecticut Defenders came back for a 5-3 win at Dodd Stadium Monday. The loss snaps Binghamton's two-game win streak.

Robinson Cancel got the B-Mets (34-46) on the board when he led off the third with a solo shot to left off Garrett Broshuis. Binghamton got to Broshuis (2-9) again in the fourth. After Mike Carp reached with a one-out single, Brett Harper followed with a two-run shot to right that put the B-Mets ahead 3-0.

Connecticut (33-49) pulled to within 3-2 against Kevin Mulvey in the bottom of the fourth when John Bowker scored on a fielder's choice and Tyler Von Schell came in on an error. The Defenders took a 4-3 lead in the sixth on Von Schell's RBI single and Simon Klink's sacrifice fly.

Joe Serfass replaced Mulvey (6-8) in the seventh and allowed a run in the eighth on Carlos Sosa's RBI double.

Tuesday, the B-Mets play the final game of their four-game set against the Connecticut Defenders. Jose Sanchez (1-3, 4.29) will start for the B-Mets against Brooks McNiven (3-3, 3.06) of Connecticut. Game time is 7:05 from Dodd Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: Harper, who also went deep Sunday, homered in back-to-back games for the third time this season. He's driven in runs in five straight games...both of Broshuis's wins are against the B-Mets...the B-Mets have scored first in all three games of the series.
