Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Binghamton Mets infielders Mark Kiger and Brett Harper, outfielder Caleb Stewart and pitcher Kevin Mulvey have been chosen to play for the Northern Division in the Eastern League All-Star Game. The 24-man rosters for the Northern and Southern Division teams were released today by the EL in conjunction with the Connecticut Defenders, who will host this year's game on Wednesday, July 11th at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Connecticut.

Kiger has been impressive in his first season in the New York Mets' organization. The 27-year-old has reached base in all but four games he's played while compiling a .414 on-base percentage, which is fourth-best in the league. The San Diego native also sports a .295 batting average with five homers, 28 RBI and a team-best 49 runs scored. Originally a fifth-round pick of Oakland in 2002, Kiger made his Major League debut with the Athletics during their 2006 postseason run.

After a shoulder injury limited him to 19 games with the B-Mets last season, Harper has returned with a bang in 2007, batting .267 with 11 homers and a team-best 48 RBI. A 25-year-old native of Scottsdale, Arizona, Harper put together an EL-best 21-game hit streak in May. The son of former Major League catcher Brian Harper, Brett was a 45th-round pick of the Mets in 2000.

Injuries limited Stewart to just 74 games last season, but the outfielder's already gotten into 71 games in 2007, batting .287 with 13 homers (tied for fourth in the EL), 45 RBI and 43 runs scored. The 25-year-old earned the EL's May Player Of The Month award, becoming the first B-Met in nearly five years to win one of the league's monthly honors. Stewart, a native of Rush, Kentucky, was a 22nd-round pick of the Mets in 2004.

In his first full professional season, Mulvey has established himself as the B-Mets' ace. The righthander's 3.32 ERA is the EL's ninth-best and his 86 2/3 innings pitched lead the team. The 22-year-old has a 6-7 record in 16 starts, but has allowed two earned runs or less in all but three of his outings. The Parlin, New Jersey product also hasn't allowed a homer since Opening Night - a span of 85 1/3 innings. Mulvey was the Mets' first pick, and the 62nd overall selection, in the 2006 draft.

Also selected for All-Star participation was former B-Mets pitcher Matt Peterson. Peterson, who pitched for the B-Mets in 2003 and 2004, was chosen to represent the Altoona Curve on the Southern Division squad.

Tonight, the Binghamton Mets play the third game of their four-game series at Connecticut against the Defenders. The B-Mets return home on Independence Day to start a six-game homestand against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Connecticut Defenders.
