
Thunder Send Three To All-Star Game

(Trenton, NJ)- Trenton pitchers Alan Horne, Jeff Marquez and outfielder Matt Carson were named to play for the Northern Division All-Stars at the Eastern League All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 11th. The mid-summer classic will be played at Dodd Memorial Stadium in Norwich, CT.
Horne, the #16 rated prospect in the New York Yankees Minor League System according to Baseball America, has a 8-3 record with a 2.31 ERA in 16 starts for the Thunder. He has 106 strikeouts in 93.2 IP with just 26 walks. Horne is tied for second in the Eastern League in wins and is second in strikeouts and ERA. He has won three of his last four starts, and five of his last six decisions. Horne is a product of the University of Florida, and helped the Gators to the College World Series in 2005. He was selected by the Yankees in the 11th round of the 2005 draft.
Marquez has an 8-5 record with a 3.29 ERA in 16 starts for Trenton, including one complete game. He is tied for second in the Eastern League in wins and is also eighth in the league in ERA. Marquez has excelled on the road posting a 6-2 record away from Waterfront Park with a 3.02 ERA. This season he has struck out 55 and walked only 28 in 93 IP. Marquez is the #12 rated prospect in the New York Yankees Minor League System according to Baseball America. He was selected by the Yankees in the first round of the 2004 draft. Marquez played his college baseball at Sacramento Community College (CA).
Carson has a .265 BA with 10 home runs and 46 RBI in 76 games for the Thunder, including eight stolen bases in eight attempts. He has compiled a .309 BA in 39 home games with seven of his 10 home runs at Waterfront Park. Carson had a .319 BA in April and leads the Thunder in runs scored (45) and RBI. He was selected by the Yankees in the fifth round of the 2002 draft. He starred at BYU leading the Cougars to the 2001 NCAA Tournament and was named 1st Team All-Mountain West as a Sophomore and Junior.
Akron (6) has the most representatives of any team in the Eastern League.
Trenton plays game three of a four-game series tonight against the Harrisburg Senators, the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Game time is 7:05 p.m. RHP Jason Jones 5-4, 2.93) starts for the Thunder against Harrisburg Jerome Williams (0-1, 5.84).
