Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips have officially traded goaltender Evan May and a 2025 5th-round WHL Draft pick to the Medicine Hat Tigers in exchange for forward Oren Shtrom, a 2023 8th-round pick and a 2024 9th-round pick.
"We're excited to add Oren to our group," commented Silvertips general manager/head coach Dennis Williams. "He's a hard-working player with good skill and valuable experience in this league. We look forward to working with him and furthering his development."
Shtrom, an '04-born forward from Gilbert, AZ, is skating in his third WHL season. Measuring at 5-foot-10, 176 pounds, he registered four assists in seven games with the Tigers this season. He skated in 60 games in 2021-22, notching nine goals with 10 assists. In the COVID-shortened 2021 campaign, he posted five goals and nine assists in 22 total games played.
Prior to joining the Western Hockey League, Shtrom played for the Rocky Mountain Roughriders 16U AAA squad, where he logged 73 points in 56 games in 2019-20. He was originally drafted by Medicine Hat 57th-overall in the third round of the 2019 WHL Draft.
"Oren plays the style we like," said Silvertips assistant general manager Mike Fraser. "He's quick with good feet and the ability to make plays in tight spaces. We're excited to add him to our group."
In return, the Tigers receive '04-born goaltender Evan May, who appeared in two regular season games over two seasons with the Silvertips. He spent the majority of 2021-22 with the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BCHL, where he recorded a 4.31 goals-against average and .884 save percentage.
