NEWS & NOTES:
Blazing Saddles: The Wheat Kings are coming off a tough 5-3 loss at the hands of the Victoria Royals Saturday night. It was a game where the Wheat Kings led 3-0 halfway through the game but would run out of gas allowing the Royals to score 5 unanswered goals. Tonight the Wheat Kings take on the Kamloops Blazers who will be hosting the 2023 Memorial Cup. The Blazers have 6 NHL draft picks on their roster as compared to the Wheat Kings 1 (Jake Chiasson). Last time these two clubs met inside the Sandman Centre was a 3-2 overtime win for the Wheat Kings in front of over 5000 spectators.
Keep your Friends Close: This will be the 2nd time longtime friends Jake Chiasson and Logan Stankoven face off against each other, the first time in Kamloops. Last time was 2019 in Brandon where each player picked up a point during their rookie seasons. Stankoven and Chiasson grew up in different communities in BC but found themselves teammates in a handful of Spring teams and in Bantam prep with Yale Academy.
You can hear voice of the Wheat Kings Chase Johnston with the call beginning with the Drummonds Farm Service pregame show at 8:45pm CST on Q Country 91.5. Puck drop slated for 9pm CST from the Sandman Centre in Kamloops.
