Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - [link] Hockey Canada announced Tuesday that Americans forward Jordan Gavin will play for Team Canada Black at the 2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, taking place Nov. 3-12 in Langley and Delta, B.C.
The tournament, which returns for the first time since 2019, will feature three Canadian teams matching up against Czechia, Finland, Sweden and the United States.
Each team will play six preliminary-round games from Nov. 3-11, with the top four in the standings advancing to the medal round. The Langley Events Centre will host 16 games, including three all-Canadian matchups and both medal-round games on Nov. 12. The seven remaining games will be played at Sungod Arena in Delta, beginning with Team Canada White facing Sweden on Nov. 3.
Gavin was selected second-overall by Tri-City in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft. He joined the Americans for nine games last season as an affiliate player and scored his first WHL goal on April 1 in Seattle, making him the youngest player to ever score for the Americans.
The five-foot-ten and 170-pound forward has had a hot start to his WHL rookie campaign with nine points (2-7-9) through eight games played. Gavin is currently tied with Lukas Dragicevic as the team's points leader and leads all 2006-born players in the WHL.
Gavin, a native of Surrey, B.C., played for Delta Hockey Academy U-17 last season, recording 105 points through 28 games. He added 30 points in five postseason games, tied as the league points leader with his Delta teammate Miguel Marques, and helped lead his team to win the 2021-22 CSSHL Championship.
