Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Sask. - Regina Pats 2006-born forward Jaxsin Vaughan has been selected to play for Hockey Canada at the upcoming 2022 National Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, which will take place in Langley and Delta, B.C., from November 3-12.
"We are very pleased that Jaxsin has this opportunity," Regina Pats GM and Head Coach John Paddock said. "It is well deserved and this will be a good opportunity for him."
Vaughan, 16, has scored two goals in 11 games with the Pats so far this season. The 6-foot-1, 192 lb. forward picked up his first career WHL goal in Calgary on October 2, 2022. The Merritt, B.C. product was drafted by the Pats in the first round (21st overall) of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft, after scoring 37 points (19G-18A) in 32 games at the U18 Rink Hockey Academy in Kelowna.
"It's a huge honour and privilege to be able to represent Canada on a national stage," Vaughan said. "Being a part of this tournament is a great opportunity and I'm very excited about it. It will feel different without my brother Corbin there, so that will be weird. Regardless, I'm excited for the opportunity."
The tournament, which returns for the first time since 2019, will feature three Canadian teams matching up against Czechia, Finland, Sweden and the United States. Team Canada Black, Team Canada Red and Team Canada White, with Vaughan featured on Team White.
Each team of the seven teams will play six preliminary-round games from Nov. 3-11, with the top four in the standings advancing to the medal round. The Langley Events Centre will host 16 games, including three all-Canadian matchups and both medal-round games on Nov. 12. The seven remaining games will be played at Sungod Arena in Delta, beginning with Team Canada White facing Sweden on Nov. 3.
TSN and RDS, the official broadcasters of Hockey Canada, will provide coverage of the 2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Broadcast schedules will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Regina Pats organization would like to congratulate Jaxsin on this accomplishment and wish him the best experience with Hockey Canada.
