Swift Current Broncos News Release

Swift Current, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos are proud to announce that forward Clarke Caswell and defenceman Josh Fluker have been named to the roster for Team Canada Black at the World U17 Hockey Challenge, slated for November 3 to 12 in Langley and Delta, British Columbia. Broncos head coach Devan Praught will also serve as an assistant coach for Team Canada White.

It will be the first time the event has been held since 2019 when it was hosted in Swift Current and Medicine Hat, and features three teams from Canada (Black, White, Red) along with teams from Czechia, Finland, Sweden and the United States.

Each team of the seven teams will play six preliminary-round games from Nov. 3-11, with the top four in the standings advancing to the medal round. The Langley Events Centre will host 16 games, including three all-Canadian matchups and both medal-round games on Nov. 12. The seven remaining games will be played at Sungod Arena in Delta, beginning with Team Canada White facing Sweden on Nov. 3.

Caswell, from Brandon, Man., was drafted 6th overall by the Broncos in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft. He spent the 2021-22 season with his hometown U18 Brandon Wheat Kings, racking up 88 points (35-53-88) in just 35 games, finishing second in MU18HL league scoring. Caswell continued his pace in the playoffs by recording 17 points (9-8-17) in 11 playoff games, helping guide the U18 Wheat Kings to the league finals. He was named the league's rookie of the year for his performance.

Caswell currently sits tied for fourth in scoring on the Broncos with five points (2-3-5) in eight games.

Fluker, from Boissevain, Man., was drafted 7th overall by the Broncos in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft. He played the 2021-22 season with the U18 Southwest Cougars, recording 20 points (6-14-20) in 38 games. He also dressed in 10 games with the Broncos as an affiliate player, picking up five assists.

Caswell and Fluker will become the first Broncos players to take part in the World U17 Hockey Challenge since Logan Barlage in 2017, though Reid Dyck, Josh Davies and Mathew Ward were invited to the U17 Development camp in the summer of 2020.
