Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - The ECHL announced today that Greenville Grrrowl goalie CAM ELLSWORTH is the current Goalie of the Week. The 25-year-old rookie went 3-0-0 with a 0.65 goals against average and a .973 save percentage from Jan. 16th to 21st. Ellsworth recorded his first professional win, his first two pro shutouts, and his first overtime win in the three games.
The 6-1, 200-pound Ellsworth stopped 35 Pensacola shots on Jan. 16th in an 8-0 win over the Ice Pilots. He followed that with a 25-save performance in a 6-0 win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on Jan. 20th. When Ellsworth allowed an early goal to the Charlotte Checkers on Jan. 21st, his shutout streak ended at 170:05. He went on to beat the Checkers, 3-2, in overtime, sending the Grrrowl the All-Star break with a six-game winning streak.
Signed by Greenville on Nov. 14, Ellsworth is 3-1-0 with two shutouts, a goals against of 0.99 and a save percentage of .957 in four games with the Grrrowl. His only other Grrrowl start before last week came on New Years Day, when he lost to the South Carolina Stingrays, 2-1, at the BI-LO Center. He began the season with Augusta and was 0-1-0 with a goals against of 3.70 and a save percentage of .900 in one game with Lynx.
The native of Leamington, Ontario played four seasons at Michigan Tech from 2001-05 and was named Third Team All-WCHA and Academic All-WCHA.
The ECHL also announced today that Grrrowl forward KRYS BARCH was named a runner-up for the ECHL Player of the Week Award. Barch had seven points in Greenville's three games last week, including the overtime game-winning goal at Charlotte on Jan. 21st. In other Grrrowl transactions, MIKE BRODEUR has been returned from the Norfolk Admirals. Brodeur was called up to Greenville's AHL affiliate on Dec. 29th, and was returned to Greenville in time to join the team for its current trip to Pensacola, Florida.
