Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Bombers kicked off the second half of the season tonight against the Johnstown Chiefs at the Nutter Center in front of over 4,000 strong, and the fans got into it early thanks to Wes Rypien and Brandon Elliott's fight within the first three minutes of the opening period.

However it would be the Chiefs who would capitalize on the energy as they would take a 3-0 into the locker room at the end of the first period.

Johnstown started the 2nd period on the power play and scored at the: 21 mark to take a commanding 4-0 lead. The Bombers would get right back into the game though later in the second on a power play goal by Alex Johnstone (2) (his first goal since 11/26/05 @ Toledo), assists to Teplitsky (12) and Gornick (19).

Less than four minutes later Paul Kelly (4) would pick up his first of two on the night on a rebound chance on the side of the net of Chiefs goaltender Morgan Cey. That goal cut the lead in half at 4-2 but a questionable penalty put the Bombers down a man once again and Johnstown's Joe Tallari would score their third power play goal of the night to re-take a three goal lead at 5-2.

Again the Bombers would answer and just before the second period ended Matt Herneisen (8) tapped home a loose puck in the crease at the 19:40 mark, assists to Noel (6) and Nathe (9) that made it 5-3 at the end of two.

Brian Gornick (12) would cut it down to 5-4 at the 2:05 mark in the third period with a pretty play to the backhand, assists to Szwez (15) and Johnstone (6). Then less than five minutes later Bryan Nathe (2) would tie the game at 5-5 with a quick wrist shot from inside the right point, assists to Herneisen (9) and Latulippe (16).

Johnstown's Joe Tallari would then pick up his second power play goal of the game to give the Chiefs a 6-5 lead, they would make it 8-5 before Paul Kelly (5) tallied his second of the night with under three minutes left in the third, final score Chiefs 8, Bombers 6.

The Bombers set a new season high with 50 shots on goal and held the Chiefs to only 19 shots against, also setting a new season high as well.

Mike Ayers was back in net for the Bombers, but late in the third got knocked down again (unintentionally), but he did stay in goal for the rest of the game despite being hit.

Next up for the Bombers the Reading Royals roll into town tomorrow night at 7:00 PM... Tickets are on sale at the Nutter Center or call the Bombers office at 775-4747
